Laptops and Wireless Access

Laptops are available for use by UVA students, staffs and faculty. The loan period for laptops is 3 hours. A University of Virginia ID is required at checkout. Laptops can be used to access Virgo and other Library databases, Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), email, and Home Directory. The wireless network is generally accessible throughout Alderman Library except in the old stacks. The UVA Wireless Laptop Program is made available by ITC and the University Library and laptops must be used in the building.

For library users using their own wireless devices :

  • UVA-affiliated users can access the wireless network but must first create a wireless account for themselves or register the MAC address of their wireless device with ITC. For more information see here .

  • Provisional accounts can be established with ITC for non-University guests but must be done through an academic department or some other sponsoring agent. For more information see here .

  • Non-affiliated users do not have access to the wireless network.
