THE CATALOGUE |
In the original typescript of this catalogue, Evan Bonds recorded a full transcription of the elements of the title-page that could be transcribed with reasonable accuracy and precision, adapting the Bibliographical Society method codified in Fredson Bowers' Principles of Bibliographic Description [7] to the description of engraved music.
The electronic catalogue maintains the title page transcriptions and bibliographic descriptions, with minor changes. For example, superscript letters and numbers on original sources are not superscripted in the text transcription; similarly, lettering that cannot be represented by ASCII text, such as the long "s," are converted to their modern equivalents. Scanned images of the title page of one part from each edition, usually the violin part, are accessible by pointing and clicking on the page icon near title page transcription. For ease of identification, a thematic incipit and a type 1 MIDI file have been provided for the first movement of each work. These are can be accessed by selecting the note, and DIN connector icons, respectively. Clicking on the Mackay-Smith bookplate icon near the composer name will return the user to the introductory page. A simple mechanism for searching by melodic contour will be provided at a later date.
