Group Study Rooms
The Brown Science and Engineering Library in Clark Hall has several group study rooms which are available to faculty, staff, and students affiliated with the University of Virginia for group study and meetings. A reservation system is in place for the four group study rooms on the Main Floor and two group study rooms on the Ground Floor. When not in use by groups, these rooms are available as study space. Other study spaces in the library (study grottoes on the ground floor, study carrels throughout the library) are available to anyone in the library for use on a first-come, first-served basis.
Reservation procedure for Group Study Rooms 155 (Large), 156 (Medium), 152 (Small-West), 147 (Small-East), G043 (Ground Floor Large), and G046 (Ground Floor Small):
- Reservations are taken up to 2 weeks in advance. No individual may have more than 3 pending bookings at one time within the two week period. Reservations must be made one day in advance. Same day reservation requests cannot be honored.
- Reservations are taken in person at the BSEL Service Desk, or call the Service Desk at 924-3628 or 924-7209 to make a reservation.
- Groups may reserve the rooms for a maximum of 3 hours.
- A minimum group of 2 is required to reserve Group Study Rooms 147, 152, 155, and G046; a minimum group of 4 is required to reserve Group Study Rooms 156 and G043.
- Rooms not used within 15 minutes of the scheduled reservation start time are considered vacant and will be available to others, first-come, first-served.
- Openings in a day’reservation schedule are available on a walk-in, sign-up basis for the current day only Sign in on the sheets posted at the rooms for time periods of up to 3 hours.
Restrictions and exemptions
- Since cooperation is needed to extend the use of the rooms to as many as possible, please limit your time in even the non-reservable rooms to 3 hours.
- Drinks and snacks are allowed in the study rooms. Trash should be disposed of in the proper containers.
- While study rooms are designed for collaborative work, there is still a need to maintain a suitably quiet study environment for other Library patrons.
- Policy exemption or modification requests will be referred to the Director of the Science and Engineering Libraries for consideration. The Library reserves the right to change use conditions without notice.
Available rooms and equipment
- Reservable study rooms 147, 155, 156, G043, and G046 have whiteboards and wireless access. In addition, G046 has wired network connections.
- A small projector is available by reservation. Make your request for the projector at the same time that you reserve a room. Whiteboard markers and erasers can be checked out at the Service Desk.
- Study grottos G044 and G047 are comfortable seating areas with wireless access for quiet collaborative work.
