Mission Statement

The Serials/Periodicals staff members support the teaching and research programs of the University by providing and maintaining access to selected scholarly information in the serials format, particularly print and electronic.

The Periodicals Check-in/Claiming Unit checks in over 5,000 print periodical subscriptions for all of the University Library locations except Darden, Health Sciences and Law. Its goal is to check-in and send each journal issue to its location within 48 hours of receipt, thus providing quick access to the wide range of periodical scholarly information needed by the University community. It also endeavors to claim unreceived periodical issues promptly on a regular basis.

The Periodical/Serials Cataloging Staff adds access to electronic serials (primarily electronic journals and newspapers) by linking these resources to VIRGO records. Its goal is to complete this linking within six working days of receipt; unless a large collection needs linking, the access is usually provided within two working days.
