ARTEMIS to IRIS Metadata Mapping

Metadata Home > Metadata Mappings > ARTEMIS to IRIS Metadata Mapping

ARTEMIS is driven by a Microsoft Access database created by the Visual Resources Collection at the University of Virginia, McIntire Department of Art. During spring/summer 2005, their data was migrated into IRIS in an effort to create a single virtual collection that is searchable as a whole, and to be used with the digital library's tools for building classroom and instructional resources.

IRIS is a relational database developed in FileMakerPro used for cataloging cultural heritage objects and their images. IRIS was built by five institutions: Brown University, Roger Williams University, Wesleyan University, Trinity College, and Smith College and is currently licensed by 15 institutions across the United States. UVa uses IRIS as its back-end collection management system for objects and images using the VRA Core and the Guidelines for Cataloging Cultural Objects.
