Central Digital Repository Gatekeeper Roles and Responsibilities

Manages selection process (text, images, geospatial and statisitcal data, audio, video).

Oversees and ensures conformity to DL standards of all materials selected for Central Digital Repository (cenrepo), including:

  • Ensuring that XML text files parse against the appropriate DL DTD
  • Ensuring that the TEI header conforms to the TEI header specification (to be determined)
  • Ensuring that images from purchased collections have metadata that maps to GDMS
  • Slides/images from user and library in 24 bit color or bitonal
    • Includes grandfathering and retrofitting existing collections that have been selected, e.g. Jefferson Country
    • Includes new collections that have been selected, e.g. Fine Arts teaching slides
  • Ensuring that digital page images that are incorporated into the DL or produced by DLPS are 400-600 dpi TIFFs that are readable, cropped, deskewed, and otherwise normalized
  • Ensuring that ETDs in PDF or HTML can be viewed in a standard version of web browser; or in XHTML or XML that parse against the DL DTD
  • Coordinating with Cataloging or other Library departments for descriptive metadata for some faculty projects (e.g.. Art Department faculty who develop digital projects with the Fine Arts Library)

Deals with all nonconforming files and metadata, including:

  • Returning files to vendor, creator, or other responsible party with instructions as to what needs to be done to conform
  • Completing work to conform to data and delivery standards; can deputize others

Creates and manages image collection and delivery including burning to CD or DVD as deemed necessary; can deputize others:

  • Manage Masters-using tools defined by the DL to meticulously catalog, store track etc., and move to nearline or offline
  • Create Deliverables (Mr. Sids, gifs, previews-generic for thumbnail)
  • Place Deliverables in their appropriate position within the file architecture

Communicates regularly with deputized persons to set timelines and oversee workflow.

Works with the Central Digital Repository Manager, to create and manage the Central Digital Repository directory structure and file names conforming to DL standards.
