Production Prioritization Review of Collections for the Digital Library Repository
- Guidelines for the selection of items for digitization by subject selectors:
- Subject criteria as would be used for all proposed library acquisitions.
- User-driven .
- Selector requests, including material requested by faculty for instruction.
- High circulation/use items.
- UVa related materials and other special collections.
- Preservation.
- Analysis of legal risk in digitization and delivery.
- See the documents "Framework for Digitization" (2005) and "Selecting, Assessing and Prioritizing Content" (2003) for additional guidelines.
- Criteria for prioritization of materials that have been selected for addition to the Repository:
- Delivery Requirements.
- If this is new digitization:
- What are the time constraints – when do the materials need to be made available?
- Will existing Content Models and disseminators be used, or will new ones be required?
- Are the delivery requirements supported by the current repository implementation, or will the delivery infrastructure require updating to deliver the content?
- If this is legacy migration:
- Are the materials currently available online?
- How stable is the current delivery mechanism, and is it well-supported?
- Will existing Content Models and disseminators be used, or will new ones be required?
- Are the delivery requirements supported by the current repository implementation, or will the delivery infrastructure require updating to deliver the content?
- Metadata.
- Availability.
- Quality.
- Does it meet the minimum metadata standards?
- Is the metadata consistent?
- Cost.
- What is the cost to purchase metadata?
- What is the cost in staff resources to create/normalize/enrich metadata locally?
- Rights.
- License terms.
- Copyright.
- Access Restrictions.
- Use Rights.
- Technical Quality.
- Quality of the media files.
- Readiness for production.
- Will existing production workflows be used, or will new workflows be required?
