Digital Library Implementation, Phase 3

Digital Library Implementation Home

The third phase of the digital library implementation will be aimed primarily at doing more of the same. This definitely does not mean that we will not be looking at what it will take to get other types of collections into the repository. Quantitative datasets, video collections and some faculty projects are obvious other candidates, but we will keep those separate from the implementation as research projects for the time being. This page will be used to keep track of things that we plan to concentrate on in phase 3 as they come up.

1.      Normalize the workflow.

The activities from phase 2, in conjunction with the workflow planning group report, will give us ideas for how to make a first pass at automating the workflow processes for the types of batches that we work with. In this phase we will isolate parts of the workflows where we can get some quick wins by writing utilities to automate parts of the process.

2.      Add more collections in the same three areas.

3.      Start using JPEG200 for our images instead of MrSid.

4.      Review and adjust the metadata standards, as necessary.

5.      Federate the digital discovery search with the SIRSI system.
