January 10, 2001 - The Claude Moore Health Sciences Library of nearly 80,000 titles joined VIRGO, the online catalog of the University of Virginia Library, on January 2, 2001.
"The addition of the Health Sciences titles enriches VIRGO, providing easy access to the holdings of all the University and professional school libraries. Users no longer need to search multiple catalogs," said University Librarian Karin Wittenborg. With over 3.2 million titles representing nearly 4.7 million volumes, VIRGO now contains the holdings of the 11 University libraries including Alderman, Astronomy, Biology/Psychology, Chemistry, Clemons, Education, Fine Arts, Math, Music, Physics, and Science and Engineering, as well as the 3 professional school libraries: Darden, Law, and now Health Sciences.
"Combining the Health Sciences Library's online catalog with that of the other U.Va. libraries will greatly facilitate interdisciplinary research and study across Grounds," said Linda Watson, director of the Health Sciences Library. "The collaboration among our libraries has never been stronger, and we're looking forward to future partnerships to benefit our customers." Users will still have the option of searching only Health Sciences records within VIRGO.
