Readers who check their Sunday papers for the newest books can get them immediately
from Clemons Library.
Clemons now receives virtually all fiction and non-fiction reviewed in the New
York Times Book Review and the Washington Post Book World by the date of their
review. Books reviewed in the Times are generally available on the Sunday they
are reviewed. Titles reviewed in the Sunday Washington Post will usually be available
within two days. The books are easy to find on display on the main floor of Clemons
Library.
"Our users have said that they would like for us to acquire and make available new books on a timely basis," said Jim Self, Director of Clemons Library. "We think this is a big improvement for them." This new program is made possible through the cooperation of the University Bookstore and University Library. Both the Bookstore and the Library receive and rush the books through their processing to make them available to library users as soon as they read the reviews.
After their week on display, any books not checked out are taken directly to their proper place in the Clemons stacks. When demand for a title is high, the Library purchases duplicate copies. Books may be borrowed for thirty days. The only titles not included in the program are children's books and those few titles which the Bookstore is unable to purchase quickly.
