How To Scan
Into Adobe Acrobat or Photoshop using the Epson
Perfection 4870 Scanner

First, lift the lid of the scanner
and place the item you want to scan on the glass, aligning at the top (either
side).
Acrobat v.7.0 Professional (create .pdfs
only)
Scanner = Epson Perfection 4870
Uncheck the box next to
“Recognize Text Using OCR” (unless you want OCR)
Photoshop Elements v.2.0
1.
Open Photoshop
Elements from the icon on the desktop

On the File menu, click on File
3.
On the drop-down menu that results, select Import
4.
From the fly-out menu that results, select EPSON Perfection 470
5.
In the Epson
Scan Window that opens, make the
following settings based on the format
of the original you are scanning:
a.
Document
Type
i.
Reflective
for opaque items such as paper or books
ii.
Film
for transparent items such as film negatives
b.
Auto
Exposure Type
i.
Photo
for images
ii.
Document
for text
c.
Image
Type
i.
Black and
White for text
ii.
Some version of Color or Greyscale for images
(24-bit
color recommended as a starting place)
6. Click on Preview Scan to get a preview of the image, and make any adjustments you need to.
Click Preview Scan each time you make an
adjustment to see the change.

When you have things as you want them, click on Scan to scan the image.
8. When scanning is finished, click on Cancel to exit the Epson Scan software.
N CAVEAT: You
will be unable to access Photoshop or anything else until you have exited the
scanning software.
9.
Highlight
the image by clicking on it, then save it:
a. In
the File menu, select File > Save As
b. Select the destination where you want
to save the file
c. Rename the file to something meaningful
to you
d. Select the format to save the image as
(.jpg, .tiff, .pdf, etc.)
e. Click
on Save
10. Close the image.
11. Repeat steps 2-10 for each scan, or close Photoshop Elements if you are
finished.
