Statement of Purpose and Use

U.Va. - Google Digitization Agreement

The University of Virginia is committed to legally appropriate and responsible use of all digital files to be received from Google under this agreement. Over time, we expect to make public domain materials available to our students, faculty, and staff for teaching, research, and other educational purposes. Digital files of our in-copyright works will be handled securely and maintained for preservation purposes. UVa recognizes the legitimate rights of content owners to control the distribution and exploitation of works under copyright.

We believe this project supports a vital role of research libraries to preserve and safeguard rare and fragile library resources, will allow unparalleled research into scholarly materials, and will deliver an extraordinary collection of full-text public domain materials to a world community of readers and scholars.
