Since 1923, PTPL has served technical services librarians in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.  Created as the "Maryland, Virginia and District of Columbia Regional Group of Cataloguers and Classifiers", the group was renamed "Potomac Technical Processing Librarians" in 1960.
