Publishers: A-K | L-R | S | T | U | V | W | Y | Z
The University Library maintains a number
of approval plans whereby scholarly books from specific
publishers are acquired automatically, as soon as they are
published. The following list includes the major American,
British, and Canadian publishers whose books we receive
automatically. Also listed are the libraries which
receive these materials.
The books are chosen according to detailed
profiles established for each publisher and library. In
some instances, such as major university presses, the Library
automatically acquires all scholarly titles published. For
example, Duke University Press titles are acquired by the
Alderman, Clemons, Education, Art, Music, and Science libraries,
according to their specific collection requirements. In
other instances, a publisher's output is acquired selectively,
as with Beacon Press, whose social sciences and humanities
titles are acquired by Alderman, and whose education titles
are acquired by the Education Library. Subject selectors
monitor the output of these and other publishers and routinely
order individual titles for the collections that are not
covered by the approval profiles.
Subject
selectors are always happy to consult on specific suggestions
or general collection questions.
