    Amazing filmography of movies, actors, directors, producers, genres, etc. Includes several supplemental databases including movie reviews, quotations, industry statistics, historic movie events, movie glossary, and more. Allows for extended searching.

  • Film Literature Index
    The Film Literature Index (FLI) annually indexes 150 film and television periodicals from 30 countries cover-to-cover and 200 other periodicals selectively for articles on film and television. The periodicals range from the scholarly to the popular... contains approximately 700,000 citations to articles, film reviews and book reviews published between 1976-2001.

  • AFI's 100 Years, 100 movies lists
    From the American Film Institute. Connections to site are very inconsistant and can be slow to load.

  • The Movie Review Query Engine
    Search engine with links to over 300 commercial and personal movie review sites from the New York Times to Mr. Cranky. Many reviews date back to the 1980s.

  • Internet Movie Database Section Browsers
    User-friendly search interface to the wealth of information contained within the Internet Movie Database (http://www.imdb.com) allowing users to search for information about actors, films, (by language, date, genre, rating, film location, and more) and academy awards.

  • The Numbers
    Daily, weekly, and total box office statistics for movies and actors. Comprehensive data dates back to 1996; summary data to early 1970s. No indication of the source of the data or the number of theaters surveyed.

  • MovieLens
    Free, personalized movie recommendation service using collaborative filtering technology. Simply tell the database your opinions on what you've seen and it finds titles (both current and older) it calculates you will enjoy. From the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota. Requires brief registration.

  • Il Cinema Italiano On-line
    Credit information and summaries (in Italian and English) for thousands of films from 1930 to the present. From the Italian Association of Cinematographic, Audiovisual, and Multimedia Industries.

  • All-Movie Guide
    Search for movies by actor, title, country of origin, genre, decade of production, "mood", and more.

  • Yahoo Entertainment - Movies/Home Videos
    Links to sites that provide information on sources, prices, reviews, new releases, etc. for videos and DVDs.

  • U.S. National Film Registry
    The National Film Preservation Board's (Library of Congress) list of "culturally, historically, or esthetically important" films. With links to the Internet Movie Database.

  • Roger Ebert's Movie Review Database
    Search RB's reviews appearing in the Chicago Sun Times back to 1985- by movie title, actor, date, or review rating.

    Brought to you by the good folks at TV Guide, this useful web site allows users to browse through 24 hours of television programming from virtually every cable, satellite, or broadcast providers in the country. Programming includes listings for a fixed 14-day period (i.e. some dates listed may be in the past). The search form allows users to look at all entries or customize by selecting day, time, channel, or genre (soaps, news, sports, etc.). Schedules include links to handy program summaries, program cast listings, and TV ratings.

    In the words of the site's creator, lawyer Stephen Lee, this site explores "... the issues behind your favorite television shows (primarily The West Wing, Saturday Night Live, the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and JAG), episode by episode. Rather than simply complaining that young people learn news from comedians, this site does something about it."

  • Canadian Broadcasting Company Radio and TV Archives
    Search or browse this multimedia database of radio and television clips from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) dating back to 1936 and 1952, respectively. "For the moment, the CBC Archives Web site focuses primarily on interviews, news and current affairs programs to which we hold or have obtained copyright." Searches can be sorted by broadcast date or media format. New topics and content are added weekly by CBC staff.
