Our Policies
Priority Activities
The Scholars' Lab supports and prioritizes particular activities, including:
- GIS
- Scanning/OCR
- Statistical analysis
Scholars' Lab patrons not engaged in priority activities may be asked to vacate a computer when the lab is at full capacity.
Conversation Level
The Scholars' Lab is designed and intended to be a collaborative space, so a moderate level of conversation should be expected in the lab. Patrons seeking a greater degree of quiet may choose to seek out other spaces for work, such as the MacGregor Room. Coversations should be kept at a reasonable level; please take cell phone calls outside of the lab in one of our newly-renovated phone booths.
Unattended Computers and Belongings
The Scholars' Lab has proven to be a very popular place in which to work. Therefore, we cannot allow patrons to "claim" spots and then take long breaks from their workstation.
- The workstations automatically log out users after 15 minutes of inactivity.
- If the computer has logged out a user and another user is waiting for a workstation, the Scholars' Lab reserves the right to move the absent user's belongings to the information desk, allowing others to use the computer.
- Thefts are reported every semester in the library. Leaving belongings unattended for even a few minutes can be dangerous.
We're all in this together! Our goal is to provide the best possible work spaces to as many users as possible.
