The American Rhododendron Society is a non-profit organization with members throughout the world. The purpose of the Society is to encourage interest in and disseminate information and knowledge about the genus Rhododendron. Its aim is to provide ways that all persons interested in the genus may communicate with others through education, scientific studies, meetings, publications and other similar activities.

Rhododendron and Azalea News is one such project. Much of the materials used in the publication are found in newsletters from the more than seventy ARS chapters. These chapters are distributed throughout the United States and Canada, but there are also chapters in Denmark, Scotland, Sikkim, and Holland. The Rhododendron and Azalea News is just one way to share ideas. A variety of subjects and information is included in the publication. This publication is dedicated to the memory of Janet (Mrs. Thomas) Binford, the Society’s first woman president, 1981-1983, who edited another Rhododendron and Azalea News for the American Rhododendron Society in the 1980’s.
