George Stubbs, considered by many to be the greatest painter of horses in the history of art, spent 18 months dissecting and drawing the bodies of horses at a farm house in England around 1763. The result of this labor was his masterwork of printing, The Anatomy of the Horse, which he published in 1766. A conerstone book for any sporting library, this book is so rare as to have been unavailable during the collecting life of Marion Dupont Scott.

Specail Collections recently purchased from Ms. Beattie her papers including manuscripts, correspondences, reviews, proofs, miscellaneous publication material and books and other printed publications. The archive includes approximately 1,500 items from a career that spans over thirty years and includes 17 published novels and short story collections.
Frederick G. Melcher Collection of Robert Frost
Special Collections recently purchased an extensive archive of materials related to Robert Frost, collected by noted publisher Frederick Melcher. The collection includes correspondence between Mr. Frost and Mr. Melcher, as well as other coresspondence relating to Mr. Frost, books by Mr. Frost, portraits of Mr. Frost, a scrapbook, and other miscellaneous personal and professional items of Mr. Melcher.
