Introduction

In the 1960's Alderman Library purchased a collection of Chinese language books from Professor Ma Meng of the University of Hong Kong. These books were a portion of the private collection belonged to the LaoXueZhai Studio collected by the late Chinese scholar Professor Ma Jian (Ma Kiam), Professor Ma Meng's father, to facilitate his teaching and research.

The MaJian collection has approximately 10,000 volumes of books in Chinese traditional binding. The collection is composed of some of the most fundatmental and essential works for Chinese(HanXue) Studies.

A print catalog of this collection was made in 1965, we are now making it available on the WEB. The Catalog is arranged according to the SiPu classifications in Jing, Shi, Zi, Ji four parts and the CongShu. Chinese characters are in Big5 encoding.
