"And" gives more hits: not limited to records with the terms in the same field. 16 hits. Display no. 6 (Pilgrimage to Mecca). B. Saving search results: multiple records: "Go back" -- do NOT use Netscape back button. Check nos. 6, 7 and 9. "Print-e-mail-download". "Display of records" -- might want to change to full. Note "sort by" and "order of call nos." -- these determine the order in which records display. "Save"=download to floppy. "Email to:" -- can e-mail to yourself. C. Advanced search screen: "Choose Search -- Advanced search". Author: Brown and Title: Augustine. 9 hits. D. Adjacency search: "Choose Search -- Quick search", pure adj land (keyword anywhere) 64 hits [vs. 87 with no adj] E. Recall. Display no. 6 (river pf fire). Click on "recall item." ID prompt. You can choose to have your request automatically routed to ILL if the material doesn't come back in a week. If location is "on order" or "in process", clicking on nearby "request item" speeds processing, and the item is held for you. F. "Choose Search -- Ejournal Lists". Scroll down and click on " Religious Studies." Journals arranged alphabetically by title. G. Mention: User Status Inquiry, under User Services button in left column. A. ATLAS Full Text Plus (formerly Religion Index) [Instructor searches alone] 1. "Other Databases - Journal articles/Newspapers", "Alphabetical List..", Note "Accessing Databases from Off-Grounds" link. Click on "A". 2. General Description: indexes journal articles, articles in books, book reviews, books, dissertations. Some links to the full text of journal articles, including some titles for which we have no paper subscription. Coverage back to 1949. 3. Basic Search window opens, set to Standard Search. Find: priesthood and feminis*. "And" must be inserted between terms in Standard Search. * is truncation symbol. 36 records. Note two types of full text links: "Linked full text (no. 1) and "Full text from ATLA" (nos. 8, 13, 18). The two types have a different look. View no. 2 ("Praxis vs image") 4. Changing display format. Click on "Preferences" at upper right. Change "Format" to "Detailed", and "Apply." You see subject headings in the search results. 5. Saving reults -- multiple citations. For nos. 1, 2, and 10 click on "add" in the right column to add citations to the folder. Click on "View folder" at upper right. "E-mail". Keep "empty folder" and "additional citation details" checked. Type in your e-mail address, give the message a subject, and send. Only citations can be e-mailed, not full text. Warning: when printing from your e-mail, some browers (e.g. Mulberry) need to be limited to a specific number of pages or they will print without stopping. 6. When printing an ATLA full-text article, first note the page range of the article then click on full-text link. "Print". Change to full page range under 1); full page range is not automatically inserted. "Redisplay". Although pages to be printed display in smaller form in column to the left, when you click on the browser print button, text prints full size. 7. Index search. Use "back" to return to Basic Search screen. Click on "Names as Subjects" on green bar at top. Search "Dogen" in the index, clicking on "Browse." Check both forms of the name and click on "Search". 82 hits. To limit this search, click on "Search Options" tab. Under "Limit your results", check "Full text", then click on "Search" by the Find box. 20 hits. Once limiters are set, they remain in place for subsequent searches. The full text limit includes ATLA full texts only. [Scriptures example: John 3:16] 8. [Optional. A complex search using adjacency and truncation: In Basic search, Standard search, enter "civil war" and methodis* . Quotation marks ask for those exact terms.] 9. No direct links to UVA holdings. "Check Virgo for UVA availability" is only a quick way to search Virgo, not a guarantee that the library has the title. 10. Advanced Search allows you to set search limiters from the very beginning and see your search history. B. No logout available from ATLAS. From window open to Virgo or by going to Library home page and clicking on Databases, show other relevant databases. In alphabetical list, mention 1) Dissertation Abstracts, 2) Historical Abstracts, 3) Lexis/Nexis Academic Universe, 4) MLA Bibliography, 5) Philosopher's Index, 6) WorldCat (verification for ILL). Often there are two versions, "Web" and "Virgo". Web allows for more sophisticated searching, but Virgo has a familiar interface and links to interlibrary loan.
