Test Questions for the ARL Statistics Web Site
http://fisher.lib.virginia.edu/arl/
The University of Virginia Library hosts the ARL statistics website. We are in the process of revising and updating the site,
and are seeking assistance from a few statistically competent librarians. We would be most grateful if you would tell us how
well the site works for you.
Listed below are a few typical queries. You may use them to help you evaluate the site.
1. What was the mean number of volumes added at ARL institutions in 2000? What was the median?
2. What library has the highest ratio of volumes held per fulltime student? What library has the lowest ratio? What is the
median value?
3. What was the ARL index ranking of the University of Virginia in 1997?
Were the sample queries easy to answer?
If not, why not?
What could be done to improve the site?
What information should be added to the site?
Any other comments?
