To observe Disability Pride Month this July, the Library is highlighting a number of resources exploring disability justice and activism that we hold in our collection, including anthologies and essays, memoirs, and a primary source database.

Reference Librarian Mandy Rizki highlights a handful of the many library resources that focus on LGBTQIA+ lives, experiences, and fields of scholarship.

Eight UVA faculty members will partner with teams of expert librarians on specific projects, offering deep interactions and an extended time commitment.

For Jewish American Heritage Month, UVA Library’s Rose Oliveira-Abbey and Carla Arton delved into the rich local history of Jewish Americans in Virginia, a legacy dating back to 1585.

“Collective Bargaining for the Common Good” explores 22 years of labor advocacy at UVA and in the Charlottesville area, ongoing through this day. Under the guidance of instructor Piers Gelly, the exhibition is the first to be curated by first-year UVA students. Visit the exhibition in Harrison/Small through June 20, 2024.

This April, the UVA Library honors National Arab American Heritage Month. Leigh Rockey, Librarian for Collections Management and Video Resources, recommends the following titles.

In a competitive application process, 25 archivists have been selected as participants in the 2024 Archives Leadership Institute, hosted at UVA.

All are welcome to join on April 4 for a grand opening celebration of The Edgar Shannon Library! An open house will take place from noon to 4 p.m., and remarks and a reception will follow. Activities will include interactive demonstrations, special displays of Library collections, virtual reality, and more!

Librarians Anne Causey and Cecelia Parks share books, films, and archival material related to women involved in this year’s Oscar-nominated films and lesser-known women actors and filmmakers through Hollywood history.
